Pharmacological ActionsA tetracycline antibiotic. Doxycycline reversibly binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting protein synthesis by blocking tRNA-mRNA complex formation, thereby rapidly suppressing bacterial growth. Effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Cross-resistance exists between doxycycline and oxytetracycline.
Orally absorbed quickly with minimal food interference, high bioavailability, strong tissue penetration, wide distribution, and prolonged effective blood concentration. Protein binding rate in pigs: 93%.
