Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride

Light yellow powder.

• Class: Tetracycline antibiotic.

• Mechanism: Reversibly binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting protein synthesis by blocking tRNA-mRNA complex formation, thereby suppressing bacterial growth.

• Spectrum: Effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (e.g., E. coli, Salmonella, Pasteurella) and Mycoplasma. Cross-resistance exists with doxycycline.

Treatment of infections in pigs and chickens caused by susceptible E. coli, Salmonella, Pasteurella, and Mycoplasma.

Dosage varies by concentration:

• 7.5% Specification:

  • Pigs: 1.33–2.67 g per 1 L water.

  • Chickens: 2–3.33 g per 1 L water.

• 10% Specification:

  • Pigs: 1–2 g per 1 L water.

  • Chickens: 1.5–2.5 g per 1 L water.

• 20% Specification:

  • Pigs: 0.5–1 g per 1 L water.

  • Chickens: 0.75–1.25 g per 1 L water.

• 50% Specification:

  • Pigs: 200–400 mg per 1 L water.

  • Chickens: 300–500 mg per 1 L water.

Duration: 3–5 days.

Prolonged use may cause secondary infections and liver damage.

1. Incompatible: Penicillins, calcium/iron/multivalent metal-containing drugs/feeds.

2. Nephrotoxicity Risk: Avoid concurrent use with potent diuretics.

3. Avoid: Chlorinated tap water or alkaline solutions.

4. Contraindicated: In patients with severe hepatic/renal impairment.
